Training Kit Contents and Instructions
About this Training Kit
The aim of this Easy English kit is to provide training and information about self advocacy. This kit can support people to make an informed decision about whether or not they want to set up a new self advocacy group.
The first step in the training process is to hold a one-off information session. This session aims to:
- Introduce the concept of self advocacy and self advocacy groups
- Find out if people are interested in setting up a new self advocacy group
- Provide an overview of the proposed training process
At the end of the information session people are asked if they are interested in learning more about setting up a self advocacy group and if they would like to undertake the training.
The second step is the delivery of self advocacy training over 3 to 4 sessions. The training focusses on 3 areas:
- Decision making processes and life decisions
- Human rights
- Self advocacy groups, including what they do, why they are important and how to start a new group, including the support required to make this happen.
